Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stay confident ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He stressed that the absence of PDP governors in some states should not stop aspirants from contesting.
First, Wike told party members to drop fear and focus on winning elections. According to him, political success does not depend only on having a sitting governor.
“Those afraid that they will not win elections because they don’t have a governor from the PDP in their state, that is a lie. Remove fear from your body and have confidence,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wike confirmed that the PDP national convention will hold on March 29–30, 2026.
He explained that:
- The party has met all requirements
- No group can stop the process
- Many former members may return soon
As a result, the party expects stronger unity before the elections.
In Addition, Wike Pushes for Real Reconciliation
In addition, Wike urged party leaders to carry out honest reconciliation. He said the PDP must welcome back members who are ready to commit.
However, he warned against people who only seek personal gain.
“Let it be in sincerity and not just about those who want to use the party for personal purposes,” he said.
However, He Warns Against Late Loyalty
However, Wike made it clear that timing matters. He said members must show loyalty before the convention, not after.
- Late returnees may not be accepted
- Members must take a clear stand now
Therefore, he urged everyone to act quickly.
Also, Wike Criticizes Defectors and Seyi Makinde
Wike also criticized PDP leaders who defected to the APC. He argued that many left because they faced political pressure.
At the same time, he took a swipe at Seyi Makinde and questioned the commitment of some leaders.
“We had 13 governors… today, how many do we have? They all ran away because they were defeated,” he said.
As a result of these issues, the Peoples Democratic Party now faces, fewer governors, internal divisions, ongoing defections
Even so, Wike insists his group represents the authentic PDP.
In conclusion, Wike reaffirmed his loyalty and vision for the party.
- He will remain in the PDP
- He supports unity and reconciliation
- He values quality leadership over numbers
“Even if we have two senators, it is better to have two quality people than a multitude,” he said.
