The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash O. Amupitan, has received a delegation from the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Security Studies (AANISS) during a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The visit focused on strengthening collaboration between Nigeria’s electoral body and security institutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The delegation was led by AANISS President Mike Ejiofor, who said the engagement aimed to deepen cooperation between election managers and security agencies.

Ejiofor noted that members of the association include senior officers from the Armed Forces, intelligence agencies, and regulatory institutions who have completed the strategic course at the National Institute for Security Studies.

Ejiofor encouraged INEC to participate in the Institute’s programme designed for top management staff.

He said such training would improve the Commission’s understanding of the security dynamics surrounding electoral processes.

The association also informed INEC about its 2nd Annual Lecture, scheduled for March 26 at the NAAF Conference Centre.

The lecture, themed “Credible Elections and National Security,” will focus on strengthening public trust in the electoral system and promoting accountability in governance.

Ejiofor announced that INEC Chairman Amupitan would serve as Chairman of the Occasion, while former Resident Electoral Commissioner Mike Igini will deliver the lecture as Guest Speaker.

Responding, Amupitan described the visit as timely and emphasised the strong connection between national security and credible elections.

He assured the delegation that the Commission remains committed to conducting free, fair and credible elections through collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders.
