Yahuza Getso Calls for Creation of State Police in Nigeria

Security analyst Dr. Yahuza Getso has called for the establishment of state police to strengthen security across Nigeria.

Dr. Getso made the call while speaking on the Spotlight programme of S24 Television in Abuja. He discussed Nigeria’s current security challenges and possible reforms.

He said state police would improve intelligence gathering and allow faster responses to threats at the local level. According to him, security challenges differ across regions.

Getso explained that states need policing structures that understand the terrain, language, and local dynamics.

The analyst said a decentralized policing system would support federal security agencies. He added that it would improve coordination in tackling crimes such as banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.

Dr. Getso also said the government must establish strong legal frameworks, accountability measures, and professional training for state police.

He urged policymakers and stakeholders to intensify discussions on the issue. He stressed that reforming Nigeria’s security system is vital for lasting peace and stability.
