The Nigerian Government has advised it Citizens living in Iran and nearby Gulf countries to stay alert. This warning follows fresh military tension in the region.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government is watching the situation closely. The crisis involves reported military actions by Israel and the United States against targets in Iran. In response, there have been reports of retaliatory strikes affecting parts of the Gulf.

As a result, the government urged Nigerians in affected areas to take extra safety steps. Specifically, it asked them to avoid military bases and government buildings. These sites could become flashpoints if the conflict escalates.

In addition, officials advised citizens to limit non-essential travel. They also warned against attending public gatherings or protests for now. Most importantly, Nigerians must obey instructions from local security agencies. This cooperation, the government said, will help protect lives.

Meanwhile, Nigerian diplomatic missions in the region have stepped up monitoring efforts. The Nigerian Embassy in Tehran and consular offices in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia are now on high alert.

Furthermore, the government said these missions are ready to assist Nigerians and provide updates as events unfold. It stressed that the safety of citizens abroad remains a top priority.

At the same time, global leaders have reacted with caution. Reports indicate that airstrikes hit some sites in Iranian cities, including the capital. U.S. officials described the strikes as efforts to remove security threats. Similarly, Israeli leaders called the operations preventive.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States aimed to destroy missile systems linked to Iran’s defence network.

In response to the escalation, the African Union urged all sides to show restraint. Likewise, the European Union expressed concern. European Council President António Costa said the situation is troubling and confirmed ongoing talks with regional partners.

Finally, the Federal Government called for calm and peaceful dialogue. It urged all parties to reduce hostilities and return to negotiations. According to the statement, diplomacy remains the best path to lasting peace and stability.
