Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara has appointed a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and a new Chief of Staff (CoS). The announcement was made on Thursday in Port Harcourt.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma will serve as the new SSG, while Barrister Sunny Ewule takes over as Chief of Staff. Both appointments take immediate effect.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House. Observers say the ceremony will formalize their roles and mark the start of their duties.
Dr. Wokoma succeeds Benibo Anabraba as SSG, while Barrister Ewule replaces Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff. The government did not disclose the reasons for the previous officials’ removal.
These appointments come amid recent administrative changes in Rivers State. Earlier political tensions required intervention by President Bola Tinubu to restore peace and halt impeachment moves. As a result, Governor Fubara reshuffled his inner circle to strengthen coordination within his office.
Political analysts note that the new appointments could align the governor’s team more closely with his governance priorities. Additionally, the changes may improve efficiency in decision-making and state administration.
The Governor and his team hope the new leadership in the SSG and Chief of Staff offices will help implement policies smoothly and maintain stability across the state.
