Plateau Traders Killed in Ambush Buried in Barkin Ladi

The corpses of traders killed while travelling from Jos to Pankshin Local Government Area have been recovered and buried in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

The victims were reportedly shoe traders and residents of the Yandoya community in Jos North. Gunmen attacked them on their way to Pankshin for their weekly business activities.

According to community sources, the attackers ambushed the traders along the route. They killed four of them, while two others escaped.

On Monday evening, relatives and sympathisers buried the victims at the Sabon Anguwa cemetery in Barkin Ladi town. Community leaders chose Barkin Ladi as the burial site to prevent tension in their hometown.

Leaders said anger had risen in parts of Jos after news of the killings spread. Therefore, they opted for a quiet burial to avoid a breakdown of law and order.

A youth leader in Barkin Ladi confirmed that the bodies arrived earlier in the day. Clerics conducted funeral prayers shortly after. He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.

Meanwhile, security personnel have increased patrols in Jos and surrounding communities. Authorities say the deployment aims to prevent further violence.

The attack adds to recurring violence in Plateau State. In recent years, repeated clashes and ambushes have claimed lives and disrupted livelihoods across the state.

Residents have called on security agencies to identify and arrest those responsible. They also urged the government to strengthen measures that will restore lasting peace in the area.
