A man identified as Samaila Zaria was burnt to death by an angry mob on Thursday, February 5, in Tsohon Kasuwa, Keffi town, Nasarawa State, following allegations that he murdered a teenage boy and mutilated the victim.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect was apprehended by members of the community shortly after the incident. Before security operatives could intervene, a mob descended on him, beating him severely and later setting him ablaze. He reportedly died on the spot.
The killing has thrown the community into shock, with residents expressing anger over the teenager’s death while others condemned the resort to mob justice. Some locals said the situation escalated quickly due to heightened emotions and the absence of immediate security presence.
Police authorities are yet to issue a detailed official statement on the incident. However, security sources confirmed that investigations have begun into both the death of the teenager and the mob action that led to the killing of the suspect.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the growing trend of mob justice in parts of the country, with rights groups and community leaders calling for calm and urging citizens to allow law enforcement agencies handle criminal matters.
