Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command arrested an 18 year old suspect for allegedly vandalizing reflective road safety installations on the Third Mainland Bridge.
They carried out the arrest after catching the suspect tampering with road studs designed to improve visibility and guide motorists, especially at night and during poor weather conditions.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the incident in a statement released on Wednesday.
Officers identified the suspect as Dogara John and apprehended him while he removed the reflective studs. A search at the scene led to the recovery of 20 road studs in his possession.
The police described the installations as critical to road safety, noting that they help motorists navigate safely and reduce the risk of accidents on the busy bridge.
The command warned against vandalism, stressing that such actions endanger lives and undermine efforts to maintain safety and order across the state.
Commissioner of Police CP Tijani Fatai reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for the destruction of public infrastructure. He emphasized the need for public vigilance and cooperation to protect vital assets.
The police urged residents to report suspicious activities around public infrastructure through emergency lines, adding that investigations into the incident continue.
