Several suspected Lakurawa terrorists have been neutralised following a series of coordinated operations by troops of Sector 2 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Sokoto and Katsina states.

According to a statement issued on Friday by Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 8 Division, and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the troops recorded the successes during ongoing offensive operations targeting terrorists and bandits operating across the North-West region.

He noted that in Sokoto State, troops responded to a distress call over an attempted attack by members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group (LTG) on a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri Village in Tangaza Local Government Area.

Security sources said the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, neutralising two of the attackers, while others fled the area following intense military firepower.

Following the operation, troops conducted exploitation of the area and recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the terrorists.

Meanwhile, in Katsina State, troops on fighting patrol in Jibia Local Government Area encountered suspected terrorists moving with rustled livestock around Danya Bakwai Settlement.

The troops reportedly engaged the criminals, forcing them to abandon 62 rustled animals before fleeing the scene.

The recovered livestock were later handed over to their rightful owners during a ceremony held at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia LGA.

Military authorities reiterated Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s continued commitment to eliminating terrorism and banditry across the region while calling on residents to provide credible intelligence and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
