President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about a month in Europe, saying he enjoyed his vacation.

The President made the comment on Tuesday evening while speaking briefly with journalists at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

When asked how his vacation went, Tinubu simply responded, “I enjoyed myself.”

The President arrived in Lagos around 6pm and was received by several political leaders, including Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Tinubu also addressed concerns and speculation surrounding his health during his time outside the country.

“Rumours will always emanate from politics. The fact remains that I’m here, healthy, sound and ready to go. Ready to kick, ready to walk. There’s nothing wrong,” the President said.

Tinubu departed Abuja on August 30 and initially spent about a week in London before travelling to Paris, France.

During his stay in Paris, the President held several engagements, including a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and meetings with business leaders.

His extended stay in Europe had generated speculation in political circles, with opposition parties calling for greater information about his whereabouts.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga had earlier announced that the President’s vacation had been extended “by a few days,” while maintaining that Tinubu was hale and hearty.

Onanuga also said the President chose to return to Nigeria through Lagos to honour the memory of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.

Tinubu is expected to attend the October 1 premiere of a film honouring Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Lagos.

While in Lagos, the President is also expected to meet political leaders and associates before returning to Abuja.

His return comes ahead of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day celebrations on October 1.
