Residents in parts of Ibadan will experience a temporary power outage as the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, begins scheduled maintenance on its transmission infrastructure.

According to TCN, the company will carry out work on a 60MVA 132/33kV transformer at the Ibadan North Transmission Substation. Specifically, the maintenance will improve equipment performance and support a more stable electricity supply.

As a result, the planned outage will affect several communities, including Akingbile, Asejire, Labo, and the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBL) axis. Consequently, residents and businesses in these areas should prepare for a temporary interruption in electricity supply.

Meanwhile, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will not distribute power to the affected communities during the exercise. This is because the company depends on TCN’s transmission network to supply electricity to its customers.

TCN expects the maintenance to last for about seven hours. Thereafter, the company will restore power immediately after completing the work. In the meantime, it has urged customers to make necessary arrangements ahead of the outage.

Furthermore, TCN apologized for the inconvenience caused by the disruption. It emphasized that such maintenance remains essential for keeping the power system in good condition. In addition, the company noted that regular upgrades help prevent unexpected breakdowns and improve overall service reliability.

More broadly, power supply challenges remain common across Nigeria. Therefore, ongoing maintenance and upgrades play a key role in strengthening the national grid. TCN continues to carry out such projects to reduce system failures and improve electricity delivery.

Finally, residents in the affected areas should plan their daily activities around the outage period. For example, businesses that depend heavily on electricity may need to rely on alternative power sources. Ultimately, TCN assured customers that it will complete the work promptly and restore normal supply as soon as possible.
