The Executive Director of the Center for Advocacy, Transparency & Accountability Initiative, Abubakar Sadiq Muazu, has called on government at all levels to prioritise education as the 2027 general elections approach.
Sadiq made the call while speaking as a guest on S24 Insight, where he addressed issues surrounding public budgeting, governance, and the role of civil society organisations (CSOs) in shaping policy outcomes.
He stressed that increased investment in education remains critical to national development, noting that it directly impacts citizens’ capacity to engage meaningfully in democratic processes. According to him, a well-informed populace is essential for accountability and effective governance.
The CATAI director also highlighted the contributions of civil society groups in advocating for transparency and improved budget implementation, urging stronger collaboration between government and citizens to bridge existing trust gaps.
He further called for better understanding between leaders and the governed, emphasizing that inclusive governance requires active dialogue and responsiveness to public needs.
Sadiq placed particular emphasis on the need to expand access to quality education for women, arguing that it is a key factor in reducing mortality rates and improving overall societal wellbeing.
He maintained that prioritising education, especially for vulnerable groups, would not only strengthen democratic participation but also deliver long-term socio-economic benefits for the country.
