Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, on Thursday formally presented Engr. Mustafa Gubio as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Governor Zulum described Gubio’s emergence as the product of extensive consultations among party stakeholders across the state, noting that the decision reflects a unified position within the APC in Borno.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he termed “strategic leadership, support and guidance” to both the state government and the ruling party.

“I wish to express my profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the leadership he is providing in the country and for the enormous support to Borno State as well as the APC, which has been unprecedented,” Zulum said.

The governor added that the President played a key role in the emergence of Gubio as the party’s consensus candidate, while also acknowledging the Vice President’s efforts in strengthening party cohesion in the state.

Zulum further appreciated the APC leadership at all levels, alongside party stakeholders and residents of Borno State, for what he described as their support, prayers and steadfastness, which paved the way for the consensus arrangement.

The presentation follows an earlier development in which Zulum unveiled Engr. Mustafa Gubio as his preferred successor after purchasing the party’s Nomination and Expression of Interest forms for the 2027 governorship election under the APC platform.

Among those present at the event were former Governor Maina Ma’aji Lawan; Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur; APC Deputy National Chairman Ali Bukar Dalori; Senators Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Mohamed Ali Ndume and Kaka Shehu Lawan; Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly Abdulkarim Lawan; Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari; and Abdulkadir Rahis.
