Oluremi Tinubu Commissions Schools in Maiduguri

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned a newly constructed nursing quarters and two mega primary schools in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and expanding access to quality education.

The projects, delivered under the administration of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, are designed to address critical infrastructure gaps in both the health and education sectors.

The nursing quarters, situated near the State Specialist Hospital, consist of eight blocks of six flats each. The fully furnished apartments are equipped with air-conditioning systems to provide improved living conditions for healthcare workers and support staff retention.

In the education sector, the First Lady also commissioned the Aliyakeri and Abbaganaram mega primary schools. Each facility features 48 classrooms, ICT centres, modern sports amenities, e-learning systems, and solar-powered electricity, enabling uninterrupted academic activities for thousands of pupils.

Speaking during the ceremony, Senator Tinubu commended Governor Zulum’s people-focused policies, noting that the projects would enhance human capital development across the state.

She described ongoing developments in Borno as encouraging, particularly in the areas of healthcare and education, which she said are critical to long-term socio-economic growth.

Governor Zulum disclosed that his administration has so far completed 104 mega schools, with additional projects underway across the state’s 27 local government areas.

As part of the visit, the First Lady also launched a N200 million empowerment programme targeting 2,000 vulnerable women across the state. Each beneficiary is to receive a grant of N100,000 alongside a sewing machine to support small-scale enterprise and improve livelihoods.

She praised the initiative, describing it as a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to social welfare and poverty alleviation.

The distribution of beneficiaries includes 400 women from Maiduguri, 200 from Jere, 100 from Biu, and 50 beneficiaries each from the remaining 24 local government areas.

In recognition of excellence, Senator Tinubu presented brand-new utility vehicles to eight outstanding education sector personnel, including teachers, principals, and technical coordinators, as facilitated by the state government.

In a related gesture, Governor Zulum awarded a house to a ministry watchman, Baba Modu Fandi, for his dedication to duty, while the First Lady supported him with an additional N2 million cash assistance.
