Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has received his first senior France call-up after replacing injured Real Madrid centre-back Ibrahima Konaté.
Konaté picked up a minor right-knee sprain during training and will return to Real Madrid for treatment. His injury created a vacancy in the France squad, with Yoro receiving the opportunity to step up from the Under-21 team.
The 20-year-old has represented France at every youth level and also featured at the Olympics. He now joins the senior team ahead of UEFA Nations League fixtures against Türkiye, Belgium and Italy.
Yoro’s promotion comes during a new era for the national team, with Zinedine Zidane now leading France. The former World Cup-winning midfielder will have the Manchester United defender among his options as the team prepares for its upcoming fixtures.
The call-up also gives Yoro another opportunity to build momentum after a difficult start to the season at Manchester United. He has faced competition for regular playing time since joining the club, but his latest international recognition provides a significant boost.
Manchester United welcomed the development on social media, posting “Bon courage, Leny!” as supporters celebrated the defender’s first senior invitation.
Yoro will now look to make his senior debut and begin his journey with the France first team.
