The Kano State Government has signed major contracts worth ₦21.29 billion with two Chinese construction companies for the rehabilitation and restoration of critical water facilities at the Tamburawa and Challawa Water Treatment Plants.
The projects are part of the state government’s efforts to improve access to safe and reliable water supply for residents across Kano State.
A statement issued by the Acting Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, said the approval for the projects was granted during the State Executive Council meeting held in kano under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
According to the statement, the projects include the rehabilitation of the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant and the restoration of its Raw Water Pump Station at the cost of ₦9.9 billion. The contract was awarded to CGC Nigeria Limited.
The government also approved ₦11.39 billion for the rehabilitation of the Challawa Raw Water Pump Station and Water Treatment Plant, alongside the restoration of the Goron Dutse Reservoirs. The contract was awarded to CCECC Nigeria Limited.
The contract signing ceremony took place at the Kano State Ministry of Water Resources headquarters, where Dr. Hashim signed the agreements alongside representatives of the two companies.
Speaking during the event, the Acting Commissioner expressed confidence in the technical competence and experience of the contractors to deliver the projects according to the required standards.
He stressed the importance of timely execution and urged the companies to complete all project activities within the agreed eight-month timeline.
Dr. Hashim described the rehabilitation of the two major water treatment plants as a significant milestone in the government’s broader plan to revive critical infrastructure, strengthen water production and distribution systems, and improve access to potable water for millions of people across the state.
Representatives of CGC Nigeria Limited and CCECC Nigeria Limited formally received their award letters and assured the ministry of their readiness to complete the projects within, or before, the stipulated timeframe while maintaining quality standards.
