Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, says state governors should explain how they spent the financial gains from petrol subsidy removalAbiodun.
Abiodun spoke on Thursday at an APC rally in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. He argued that states received higher allocations after the Federal Government removed the subsidy in 2023.
The governor said states used the additional funds to build roads, schools, housing and an airport. He also cited support for farmers.
His comments come amid growing debate over how governments have used the money saved from subsidy removal.
Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele said the reform saved the Federation N15.8 trillion between June 2023 and December 2025.
Opposition figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, have demanded greater accountability for the funds.
They have also criticised the economic impact of the subsidy removal.
Abiodun also expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections. He said the ruling party would defeat its opposition.
