The Gombe State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with students and ensuring a safe learning environment across educational institutions in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, made this known on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, when he received the President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of Gombe State University, Ambassador Abubakar Aminu Muhammad (ALAA), and his entourage on a familiarisation visit.
The visit was aimed at building stronger relations between the police command and the university’s student leadership while promoting cooperation on issues concerning students’ safety and security.
Speaking during the visit, CP Chuso assured the students that the command would continue to support efforts aimed at maintaining a peaceful and secure learning environment in Gombe State.
He urged the students to serve as peace ambassadors and adopt dialogue and other peaceful mechanisms in resolving disagreements rather than resorting to violence.
The Commissioner also warned against the growing influence of political and digital thuggery, stressing that such activities could negatively affect the future of young people and hinder national development.
Responding, the SRC President, Ambassador Abubakar Aminu Muhammad, commended the Commissioner of Police for his efforts towards protecting lives and property across the state.
He also called for stronger cooperation between the police and the university’s student leadership, particularly during students’ social and other major campus activities.
The visit concluded with the presentation of a concept note to the Commissioner of Police for a proposed campaign titled “Students Campaign Against Political and Digital Thuggery.”
The campaign is expected to be held during the upcoming SRC Week and will focus on raising awareness among students about the dangers of political and digital thuggery and promoting responsible civic engagement.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Gombe State Command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, ANIPR, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
