The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Musa Adamu, after he allegedly broke into his girlfriend’s home, attacked her with a hammer, attempted to strangle her and stole ₦100,000.

Police officers arrested the suspect, who lives in Riyal Quarters, following a complaint from the victim at the Pantami Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the incident happened in the early hours of 9 June 2026.

Investigators said the suspect allegedly climbed over the fence surrounding the victim’s residence at about 2:00am before forcing his way into her room. Once inside, he reportedly launched a violent attack, striking her with an iron hammer and attempting to strangle her with a USB cable.

The woman suffered serious injuries during the assault. Despite her condition, she managed to raise an alarm, forcing the suspect to flee the scene. Police said he allegedly escaped with ₦100,000 belonging to the victim.

After receiving the distress report, officers moved swiftly to the scene and arranged urgent medical treatment for the injured woman. Medical personnel treated her injuries, and she later returned home.

Police immediately launched an investigation and tracked down the suspect within hours. Officers arrested him at about 9:45am on the same day.

During the operation, detectives recovered an iron hammer believed to have blood stains on it and a USB cable which they suspect the man used during the attack. Investigators have since taken both items into evidence as they continue their enquiries.

Preliminary findings suggest that the incident may have stemmed from a disagreement over money. Police said the suspect had approached the victim, a businesswoman, earlier that day and asked her for financial assistance. She reportedly refused the request.

The suspect remains in custody while detectives are working to get more information of the incident and will appear before the court once investigators conclude their enquiries.

The Gombe State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling crime and protecting residents.
