FG Distribute Fertilizers To South Eastern Farmers

The Federal Government has started distributing 80,640 bags of fertiliser to 20,160 smallholder farmers in Imo, Enugu, Anambra, and Ebonyi States.

The National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) launched the scheme at Heroes Square in Owerri. According to NADF’s Executive Secretary, Mohammed Ibrahim, represented by Ernest Ihedigbo, the programme will close input gaps, boost yields, and strengthen resilience. Each farmer will receive fertiliser support.

Moreover, Ihedigbo explained that the initiative promotes local fertiliser production, creates jobs, and improves food security. In addition, it aims to stabilise food prices and strengthen value chains.

Representing the Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari, adviser Ibrahim Tanimu said the programme is a strategic step toward food self-sufficiency. He stressed that government wants to cut production costs and raise crop yields through direct farmer support.

Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Imo State Government, AFAN, and NADF will ensure transparency in distribution.

Governor Hope Uzodimma, represented by Deputy Governor Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, praised the initiative as a major boost for agriculture in the South-East. She urged farmers to use the fertiliser wisely, noting that it will improve harvests, create jobs, and support rural livelihoods.
