Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has warned his players not to relax after their 2-2 draw with Rennes in their opening Ligue 1 match of the season.
PSG fell two goals behind before fighting back to earn a point on Sunday. New signing Ferran Torres scored twice after coming off the bench in the second half.
Enrique made two changes at half-time. He replaced Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia with Mika Godts and Torres.
The changes helped PSG improve after a poor first half.
“Paris Saint-Germain have won nothing, nothing,” Enrique said after the match.
The Spanish coach wants his squad to stay focused despite their recent success. PSG won the European Super Cup this month but lost the French Super Cup to Racing Lens.
The French champions are also defending their Ligue 1 title this season. They will also aim for a third straight Champions League title.
Enrique warned that past success would not guarantee future trophies.
“If you think about what you’ve won, you’re not going to win anything,” he said.
The PSG boss urged his players to prove themselves in every match and training session. He also told them to step outside their comfort zone if they want to keep winning.
Torres makes instant impact
Enrique praised Torres after the forward scored twice on his PSG debut.
The coach was pleased with the impact of his substitutes. He said they helped PSG control the game better after Rennes dominated the first half.
“It’s important for me to see that so many players are ready,” Enrique said.
Torres recently joined PSG after making his name with Spain. He also scored Spain’s extra-time winner against Argentina in last month’s World Cup final.
Enrique believes the forward can play an important role for the club.
“We sign players to go on a long journey with them,” the PSG coach said.
PSG face stronger competition
Enrique also warned that competition for places in his squad will be tougher this season.
He said PSG must continue to select the best players for each match. The coach also praised the club’s transfer activity.
“We had a very good transfer window, and we’re still open to different possibilities,” he said.
However, Enrique admitted that PSG still have work to do.
He stressed that maintaining success remains difficult and urged his players to keep improving throughout the season.
