Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya has accepted her victory in the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) pledged to lead with integrity, fairness and accountability.
Badejo-Okusanya emerged winner of the election on Sunday securing 12,317 votes from the 26,106 ballots cast in the electronic voting exercise.
She defeated two other candidates, Tobenna Akangbe, SAN, and Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN.
Akangbe received 7,934 votes, while Akinboro polled 5,855 votes.
The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) released the final results on Sunday.
In a statement shared on her social media accounts, Badejo-Okusanya thanked lawyers and her campaign team saying the victory belongs to lawyers who believed in a stronger and more inclusive NBA.
The president-elect said she would pursue the vision behind her campaign slogan, “A Bolder Bar That Works for Everyone.”
She promised better welfare for lawyers. She also pledged to build an association where members can “earn better, live better and practice better.”
Badejo-Okusanya promised to lead with courage, humility, fairness and accountability.
She congratulated her opponents and promised to work with them for the growth of the legal profession.
Badejo-Okusanya will become the 33rd president of the NBA.
She will assume office during the association’s Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The conference will hold from August 21 to 28.
She will become only the second woman to lead the NBA in its 66-year history.
Priscilla Kuye was the first woman to occupy the position between 1991 and 1992.
Badejo-Okusanya joined the Nigerian Bar in 2002 after studying Law at the University of Lagos.
She also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the institution.
She became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in September 2024.
