Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the latest killings in Southern Kaduna, accussing the Federal Government of failing to protect Nigerians from rising insecurity as fresh attacks in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State left many residents dead.
According to Atiku, the incident is both heartbreaking and unacceptable. He said the killings show that the government has failed in its duty to protect lives and property. As a result, he argued that no government can claim success while innocent people continue to die.
Meanwhile, the former vice president criticized officials of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He said they were promoting claims of receiving a letter of commendation from the United States. However, he insisted that security should remain the government’s main concern.
According to Atiku, Nigerians do not need international praise. Instead, they need safety. They should be able to sleep peacefully, travel without fear, and farm without the threat of terrorists, bandits, or other criminals.
In addition, he said a government’s performance should be judged by how well it protects its people. Public relations campaigns, he added, cannot replace real action.
Therefore, Atiku called for major changes to Nigeria’s security system. He urged the government to improve intelligence gathering and strengthen security operations. He also called for the quick arrest and prosecution of those behind the attacks.
Furthermore, he said repeated statements after every attack are no longer enough. Security agencies, he added, should prevent future attacks before they happen. They should also remain alert as activities ahead of the 2027 general election increase.
Finally, Atiku expressed sympathy to the families of the victims and the people of Southern Kaduna. He said those responsible must face justice. He concluded that history will judge every government by its ability to protect lives, not by claims of international recognition.
