The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed claims circulating in the public space regarding a History textbook titled “Living History,” describing reports that the book is approved for Nigerian schools as misleading and inaccurate.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry stated clearly and unequivocally that the book has not been approved and is not recommended for use in any Nigerian school.
According to the Ministry, the book was never submitted to the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), the statutory agency responsible for reviewing and approving instructional materials in line with the national curriculum.
Following consultations with NERDC leadership and a review of the current approved textbook list aligned with the revised curriculum, the Ministry confirmed that “Living History” remains unapproved for nationwide classroom use.

The Ministry therefore urged parents, teachers, school owners and administrators to disregard misinformation and avoid the use of unapproved textbooks, warning that such materials could compromise curriculum standards and negatively affect learning outcomes.
It emphasised that only approved textbooks reflect Nigeria’s cultural diversity, shared heritage and national values.
Stakeholders were advised to verify approved learning materials through official NERDC channels.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to quality education, transparency and national unity, stressing that education must be guided by accuracy and integrity.
