Former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz, appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday. They face a five-count charge.
Specifically, Malami is accused of refusing to prosecute alleged terrorism financiers in November 2022 despite receiving their case files allegations involving the illegal holding of weapons.
The prosecution, led by Mr. Callistus Eze, requested that the defendants be remanded in DSS custody following their “not guilty” pleas.
In response, the defense lead, Mr. Shuaibu Arua (SAN), attempted an oral bail application, highlighting two key points,the defendants have already spent two weeks in DSS custody.They arrived at the court directly from the hospital.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik rejected the oral request, emphasizing that the High Court is a “court of record.”I order counsel to file and serve a formal bail application,” the judge ruled.
