The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has unequivocally denied claims that its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, engaged in discussions about defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or negotiating with President Bola Tinubu on such a move.
According to the party, reports suggesting that Kwankwaso pursued defection including claims that he made demands or held meetings with APC leaders are false and misleading. The NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, stressed that the speculation only emerged after the defection of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the APC and was being circulated to damage Kwankwaso’s reputation Johnson said Kwankwaso’s last meeting with President Tinubu was in 2024 and did not involve any talks of defection. He described the notion that Kwankwaso overreached or made demands in defection negotiations as baseless
The NNPP insists that Kwankwaso remains committed to his party’s ideals and has not contemplated joining the APC.
