Archbishop of Canterbury Commends Kaduna Peace Progress

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has received the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury, His Grace Justin Portal Welby, on a courtesy visit at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna.

The visit took place on the sidelines of the Archbishop’s engagement as Guest Speaker at the Ahmadu Bello University Convocation Lecture in Zaria. Officials described the meeting as symbolic and timely.

Archbishop Welby recalled his first visit to Kaduna in 2002. He said the state was then affected by recurring ethno-religious tensions and social unrest.

He noted significant improvement in peace, unity, and stability across the state.

The Archbishop said this progress influenced his decision to visit the Government House.

He commended the state government for sustaining reconciliation efforts. He also encouraged the administration to remain committed to social cohesion.

Governor Sani thanked the Archbishop for the visit and the positive remarks. He outlined the Kaduna Peace Model, which focuses on dialogue, inclusion, and fairness.

The governor said the strategy has produced measurable results over the past two and a half years. He noted the absence of ethno-religious conflict in the state during this period.

He described the achievement as a product of deliberate governance decisions. He stressed that the administration rejected identity-based politics and division.

Governor Sani said his administration has prioritised inclusive governance. He added that equity, justice, and mutual respect guide policy decisions.

He explained that the government promotes dialogue over confrontation. It also supports participation across communities and equitable development.

According to him, these measures have helped rebuild trust and strengthen social harmony.

The governor reaffirmed Kaduna State’s commitment to sustaining peace. He said the government will continue to promote unity across religious and ethnic lines.

He added that the state remains focused on building a future defined by cooperation and shared progress.

Governor Sani said Kaduna will continue working toward lasting harmony and inclusive growth.
