The Gombe State Government has received high praise from the Federal Government over its level of preparedness for the implementation of the Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) Project, signaling a smooth and timely takeoff of the initiative in the state.
The commendation came from the National Project Coordinator (NPC) of SPIN, Engr. Ipinlaye Olaiya, following a technical assessment visit by a team from the Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU) to Gombe State.
The FPMU delegation, led by Engr. Hauwa Muhammad Sadique, Head of Irrigation, visited the state on behalf of the NPC to verify Gombe’s readiness for the project.
During the visit, the team met with Alhaji Shehu Muhammad Bello, Head of the Project Financial Management Unit (PFMU), who confirmed that all critical financial requirements—including counterpart funding, Service Level Agreements (SLA) and dedicated project accounts—have been fully put in place.
Alhaji Shehu assured the delegation of the state government’s commitment to financial transparency, accountability and sustained support, stressing that these measures are designed to ensure seamless project execution.
The team later proceeded to the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) office, accompanied by the Gombe State Project Coordinator, Engr. Dr. Muhammad Kabir.
At the SPIU office, staff were formally introduced to the FPMU delegation for familiarisation. The team also reviewed operational checklists and engaged in interactive sessions with SPIU personnel, encouraging them to give maximum support to the leadership of the State Project Coordinator to guarantee overall project success.
Impressed by the level of organisation and preparedness, the FPMU team commended the Gombe State Government for creating a conducive working environment for the effective operation of the SPIU.
Members of the FPMU delegation included the National Project Accountant, Head of Dam Safety, the Consulting and Management Consultant (CMC) and the Project Technical Secretary, underscoring the importance attached to the assessment.
The commendation further reflects Gombe State’s proactive approach under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, aimed at boosting food security, modernising irrigation systems, expanding access to sustainable power, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.
With all critical structures in place, Gombe State is now well-positioned to harness the full benefits of the SPIN Project for the development of agriculture and livelihoods across the state.
