NUJ Mourns Seven Gombe Journalists Involved in Road Accident

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of seven journalists from Gombe State who were involved in a fatal road accident over the weekend.

In a statement issued by the National President of the Union, Alhassan Yahya, the NUJ described the incident as a devastating loss to the media industry in Nigeria, noting that the deceased were dedicated professionals committed to public service through journalism.

Yahya said the Union stands in solidarity with the families and colleagues of the victims during this difficult period and extended condolences on behalf of the National Executive Council and the Nigerian media community.

He also called for increased road safety measures to prevent similar tragedies, especially for journalists frequently required to travel for official duties.

“Their passing is a painful blow not just to Gombe State but to the entire journalism profession. We pray that Almighty God grants the deceased eternal rest and comforts their families,” the statement read.

The NUJ urged authorities and road users to prioritise safer driving practices to reduce avoidable accidents and safeguard lives.
