The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that the crew of its C-130 aircraft has safely resumed its ferry mission from Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, to Portugal, following a precautionary landing on December 8, 2025.

The aircraft had been diverted due to a technical concern observed shortly after takeoff from Lagos. The NAF clarified that the precautionary landing in Burkina Faso was carried out in accordance with standard safety procedures and international aviation protocols to ensure the safety of both crew and aircraft.

The NAF stated that the crew is safe and well, and they received cordial treatment from the host authorities in Burkina Faso. The aircraft’s temporary diversion was strictly a safety measure, and the mission has now resumed without incident.

According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters:

“Plans are ongoing to resume the mission as scheduled. The Nigerian Air Force appreciates the support received during this period and assures the public that NAF remains professionally committed to strict compliance with operational procedures and safety standards, ensuring the protection of its personnel while fulfilling its constitutional mandate.”

The statement underscores the NAF’s commitment to operational excellence, aviation safety, and international cooperation during ferry and operational flights.

The resumption of the mission demonstrates NAF’s ability to manage technical contingencies efficiently and maintain operational readiness. It also reflects Nigeria’s broader aviation capabilities in safely executing long-distance ferry missions while adhering to global standards.

Aviation experts say precautionary diversions, such as this, are standard international practice to safeguard crew, passengers, and equipment, ensuring missions continue with minimal risk.

The safe continuation of the NAF C-130 mission from Burkina Faso to Portugal highlights the Nigerian Air Force’s professionalism, strict adherence to safety protocols, and resilience in operations. As the aircraft completes its journey, the NAF reiterates its commitment to protecting its personnel, aircraft, and strategic missions.
