Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has been honoured with the Award of Recognition for Championing Primary Healthcare Services and Improving Access to Quality Health for All at the National Health Media Dialogue held in Abuja.

Themed “Advocacy Solutions to Improve PHC Delivery and Health Outcomes in Kaduna, Lagos, and Kano,” the dialogue brought together media leaders, policymakers, and health experts to assess progress in strengthening primary healthcare systems across key states.

Governor Sani dedicated the award to “the unwavering commitment and resilience of the Kaduna State health family,” acknowledging healthcare professionals, administrators, and partners for their collective contribution to improving healthcare delivery in the state.

He said the recognition was a validation of Kaduna State’s sustained health sector reforms, which have placed Primary Health Care (PHC) at the core of the administration’s human capital development agenda.

“Our administration is determined to make quality healthcare accessible, affordable, and equitable for every citizen, regardless of geography, gender, or social status,” the governor stated.

Highlighting key achievements, Governor Sani said the state has revitalised and equipped 255 PHCs across all 23 Local Government Areas under the “One Functional PHC per Ward” initiative, with each facility upgraded to the national Level-2 standard.

He added that 23 PHC Centres of Excellence have been established, referral systems strengthened, and 975 essential medicines made 100 percent available across public health facilities.

To enhance service delivery, the governor said 1,800 new health workers were recruited, 4,000 Community Health Influencers and Promoters (CHIPS) deployed, and the state became the first to fully disburse the Medical Residency Training Fund.

He also noted the implementation of the 2024 CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures, the expansion of health insurance coverage under KADCHMA, the launch of the Kaduna State Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (KADSEMSAS), and the establishment of the Kaduna State Centre for Disease Control (KADCDC).

Governor Sani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that access to quality healthcare becomes a right enjoyed by every resident of Kaduna State.

“Together, we shall continue to build a Kaduna State — and indeed a Nigeria — where access to quality healthcare is not a privilege, but a lived and enduring reality for all,” he said.
