The family confirmed his death in a statement shared on his verified Instagram page on Friday morning and thanked fans and well-wishers for their prayers and support.

Duru Previously Addressed Health Rumors
His death comes months after the actor dismissed rumors about his health. In June, a video showing him looking frail circulated online, raising concerns among fans and colleagues.
Duru later addressed the speculation in an Instagram video. He described the circulating clip as false and maliciously fabricated.
A Career Spanning More Than Three Decades
Born on July 27, 1969, in Cameroon, Duru had family roots in Imo State, Nigeria. He completed his early education in Cameroon before moving to Nigeria to study Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt. He graduated in 1996.
The actor began his acting career in 1989 with Missing Mark, a film by Ndubuisi Oko. However, he gained widespread recognition for playing Ahanna in Amaka Igwe’s 1995 classic, Rattlesnake.
Over the years, Duru featured in numerous films and earned recognition for his contributions to the Nigerian film industry. His honors included the UN Ambassador of Peace award in 2007.
In 2020, he won Best Actor in a Leading Role (Igbo) at the Best of Nollywood Awards for his performance in Mboputa.
Duru Leaves Behind His Family
The veteran actor is survived by his wife, Adokiye, whom he married in 2003, and their children.
His death marks the loss of an actor whose career spanned more than three decades and whose performances helped establish his place in Nollywood.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
