The Vice-Chancellor of Gombe State University (GSU), Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, has received an Academic Leadership Award from the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) in recognition of his contributions to education and scientific development in Nigeria.
Professor Yauta received the award on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, during the 49th Annual International Conference, Workshop and Exhibition of the Chemical Society of Nigeria held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.
The Chemical Society of Nigeria recognised the Vice-Chancellor for his contributions to the education sector, particularly his support for the advancement of science and chemistry education in the country.
The award also acknowledged his leadership and efforts toward strengthening education and promoting scientific development.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Professor Yauta expressed appreciation to the Chemical Society of Nigeria for the recognition.
He described the award as an encouragement to continue contributing to the advancement of education, scientific research and innovation.
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote quality education and scientific research, particularly in Gombe State and Nigeria.
The conference also featured the presentation of several awards to distinguished Nigerians for their contributions and achievements in various fields.
Professor Gloria Ukalina Obuzor received the Distinguished Service Award, while Professor Casimir Emmanuel Gimba and Professor Sunday Olawale Okenyi were honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards.
Alhaji Buba Usman Shanu received the Chemical Society of Nigeria Gold Award, while Professor Ebitimi Peter Berezi and Professor Akinlola Kehinde Akinlabi were among other distinguished recipients.
The event brought together scholars, scientists, academics, professionals and other stakeholders to discuss developments in chemistry, science and technology and their contributions to national development.
The recognition adds to the growing profile of Gombe State University in promoting academic leadership, scientific research and innovation.
