Vice-President Kashim Shettima will unveil a new biography of the late Brigadier Musa Usman on Monday, September 14, 2026. The event will take place at the NAF Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja. It will begin at 10:00am.

The 363-page book is titled Brigadier Musa Usman (1940–1991): Service and Impact. Malam Mahmud Jega and Dr Theophilus Abbah authored the biography.

A statement signed by Hassan Tanimu Musa Usman on behalf of the family announced the event saying Shettima will attend as the Special Guest of Honour.

The biography examines Usman’s military career and his years in public service, highlights his contributions to the development of northeastern Nigeria. Brgadier Musa Usman served as the Military Governor of the former North-Eastern State from 1967 to 1975.

At the time, the state covered a vast area of northeastern Nigeria. Today, that territory forms six states: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe.

According to the family, the book examines Usman’s role in developing infrastructure across the region, documents his contributions to education, healthcare and socio-economic development.

In addition, the authors trace his early life and military career examining his rise through the Army and the Air Force before his appointment as governor.

Former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon wrote the foreword to the biography. Gowon described Usman as a man of “integrity and honesty.” He also praised the infrastructure developed during Usman’s tenure. “His administration achieved significant results,” Gowon wrote. He linked many of the region’s existing infrastructure projects to Usman’s administration.

Meanwhile, several political and military figures will attend the Abuja ceremony.

Major General IBM Haruna, a former Federal Commissioner for Information, will chair the event. Major General (Senator) Ike Omar Sanda Nwachukwu will deliver the keynote address.
