The Director of the City Boy Movement in Gombe State, Hon. Mubarak Hamisu Usman, popularly known as Barakbisa, Kangiwan Akko, has called on youths across the state to promote peace, unity and responsible political engagement, particularly on social media.
Usman made the call while urging social media users, content creators, influencers and administrators of online platforms to recognise the power and responsibility that come with their digital platforms.
He cautioned against the spread of fake news, rumours, misinformation and unverified political claims, warning that irresponsible publications and inflammatory comments could create unnecessary tension, damage relationships and deepen divisions within communities.
According to him, social media should be used to promote constructive conversations, education, community development and peaceful coexistence rather than become a platform for political hostility.
He urged users to verify information before sharing, particularly during periods of heightened political activity when unverified claims can easily spread and influence public opinion.
Usman also appealed to political supporters across Gombe State to respect differences in political opinions, stressing that disagreement over political parties and candidates should not degenerate into personal attacks or conflict.
He said citizens have the democratic right to support different political parties and candidates, adding that political support should be based on ideas, programmes, policies and achievements rather than insults, threats, character assassination or the dissemination of false information.
“Politics is temporary, but the relationships, communities and society we build together remain with us,” he said.
The City Boy Movement director urged youths, political activists and other stakeholders to conduct their activities with maturity, tolerance, discipline and mutual respect.
He further expressed appreciation to the people of Gombe State for their continued support, prayers, encouragement and goodwill towards him and the City Boy Movement.
Usman particularly acknowledged traditional rulers and royal fathers across the state for their warm receptions, wisdom, guidance and counsel, describing their advice as an important source of direction in efforts to promote peace, unity and responsible leadership.
He also called on Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda, urging citizens to give the Federal Government the necessary support and opportunity to consolidate its ongoing reforms, programmes and development initiatives.
At the state level, Usman appealed to the people of Gombe to continue supporting Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Jamil Gwamna, and other APC candidates across the state.
He, however, stressed that political support must remain consistent with the principles of peaceful coexistence, responsible citizenship, tolerance and respect for democratic values.
Usman urged Gombe youths to transform their social media platforms into tools for positive engagement and community development, rather than channels for spreading rumours, misinformation and divisive content.
He said responsible digital citizenship was particularly important as Nigeria moves closer to another major political cycle.
The City Boy Movement director maintained that political competition should not destroy the social bonds that hold communities together, urging supporters of different political interests to focus on issues and engage one another constructively.
“Let us support our candidates with facts, ideas and constructive engagement. We can disagree politically without becoming enemies. Politics will come and go, but we will continue to live together as one people. Let peace remain our priority,” he said.
He concluded by emphasising that peace is a collective responsibility and that the progress and unity of Gombe State should remain above political differences.
