Arsenal have agreed a £75 million deal to sign Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães, according to reports.
Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that Arsenal and Newcastle reached an agreement for the Brazilian midfielder. The report also said Guimarães has permission to travel for his medical.
The transfer brings Arsenal closer to signing one of the Premier League’s top midfielders. Manager Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen his midfield before the new season.
Guimarães joined Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022. He quickly became one of the club’s most important players. His leadership and consistent performances helped Newcastle qualify for European football. The club later named him captain.
Arteta sees the Brazilian as a key addition to his squad. Guimarães can control the tempo of a match, win the ball in midfield, and support attacks. Those qualities have made him one of the league’s most sought-after midfielders.
Newcastle will receive a significant fee if the deal goes through. The club signed Guimarães for a much lower amount and now stands to make a substantial profit.
The clubs are expected to complete the transfer after Guimarães passes his medical and agrees personal terms with Arsenal.
His arrival would give Arsenal more quality and experience as the Gunners chase Premier League success and aim to compete strongly in Europe this season.
Earlier reports said Arsenal planned to improve their offer for the Brazilian. The latest developments suggest both clubs have now reached an agreement.
