Chelsea Close in on Danny Welbeck Signing

Chelsea are close to signing Brighton striker Danny Welbeck after the experienced forward received permission to undergo a medical at Stamford Bridge.

The 35-year-old is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Blues. He is also expected to join the squad in Hong Kong next week for the club’s pre-season tour.

Alonso Targets Experience

New Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso wants to add more experience to his squad ahead of the new season.

The club has relied on one of the youngest squads in the Premier League over the past two campaigns. However, Chelsea struggled for consistency and finished 10th last season without winning a trophy.

Club co-owner Behdad Eghbali later admitted the team’s recruitment strategy needed changes. As a result, Chelsea have turned their attention to experienced players.

More Signings Expected

Meanwhile, Chelsea have also made an offer for Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka, who previously played under Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen.

In addition, talks continue over a move for Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson.

The Blues are also close to completing the signing of centre-back Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace on a six-year contract.

Furthermore, 21-year-old full-back Marco Palestra has joined the club from Atalanta as Chelsea continue to strengthen their squad before the new Premier League season.
