Nigerian Medical Graduate Dies After Kharkiv Airstrike

Nnani Adaobi Marian, a 23‑year‑old final‑year medical student at Kharkiv National Medical University, has died from injuries caused by a Russian airstrike in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Kateryna Bohuslavska, known online as “Kate from Kharkiv,” shared the news on June 29, 2026, Adaobi and her friend, Fatima Huseynova, were heading to a graduation photoshoot when bombs hit the Kholodnohirskyi district. Fatima died instantly, while Adaobi was taken to Germany for treatment but later passed away.

Bohuslavska wrote on X “Medical teams in Kharkiv and Germany tried to save her, but she succumbed to her injuries, she and Fatima had their whole lives ahead of them.”

Kharkiv National Medical University released a statement in her memory. The school described Adaobi as a hardworking and responsible student who joined in 2020.

She took part in international internships, including at Cambridge in 2024 and Beruni University in Turkey in 2025. Teachers and classmates remembered her as bright, sincere, and eager to help others.

The university expressed condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues, saying she will always be remembered as a talented student and kind person.
