Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested three suspected members of a notorious gang accused of terrorising residents of Yola, the state capital, and neighbouring communities.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday. He said the suspects were arrested by operatives attached to D15 of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) during a targeted intelligence-led operation.

According to the statement, the suspects were identified as Abdulmalik Mohammed, 22; Abba Mustapha, 21; and Ibrahim Yusuf, 22.

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives attached to D15 of the State Criminal Investigation Department carried out a targeted operation that led to the arrest of the suspects,” Nguroje said.

He explained that the operation was part of the command’s sustained crackdown on Shilla gangsterism and other violent crimes across the state.

The police said the suspects were arrested for alleged criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of dangerous weapons and suspected banned substances.

During the operation, officers recovered dangerous weapons and suspected illicit substances from the suspects.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, linked the trio to criminal activities associated with the notorious Shilla gang, whose operations have become a major security concern for residents of Yola and surrounding communities.

The Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying operations against criminal gangs and other threats to public safety across the state.

He also appealed to residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information that would assist security agencies in tackling crime.

The command added that investigations are ongoing, after which the suspects will be charged to court.
