The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State has chosen Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The party’s governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, made the announcement on Monday. His spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, confirmed the development.

Shuaibu said the decision followed consultations with party leaders and stakeholders across Kano State. He said the party aimed to strengthen its chances ahead of the 2027 polls.

Mustapha Kwankwaso is the son of former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The party believes his nomination will expand its support base. It also expects him to strengthen internal unity within the party.

Gwarzo, a former Deputy Governor of Kano State, secured the NDC governorship ticket after internal consultations.

The ticket now pairs Gwarzo with Mustapha Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 governorship race under the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

Political analysts say the move could influence alliances in Kano politics. They expect it to shape early positioning ahead of the election.

The campaign spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, said the choice reflects the party’s focus on inclusiveness and representation.
