As Nigeria intensifies its fight against insecurity, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA say they have foiled separate terrorist attacks in Zamfara State, preventing a mass abduction, neutralising several terrorists, and recovering weapons and motorcycles during operations in Maru and Kaura Namoda Local Government Areas.
According to military sources, the first operation took place on June 9, 2026, after troops received intelligence about terrorist activities in Kanoma District, Maru LGA. The soldiers swiftly advanced to Kanoma Hill, where they encountered the attackers.
A fierce gun battle followed, with the troops overpowering the terrorists through superior firepower. One terrorist was neutralised during the exchange, while security personnel recovered a rifle loaded with ammunition and two motorcycles believed to have been used by the fleeing criminals.

In a separate operation in Kaura Namoda LGA, troops acted on reports that armed terrorists had attacked Kungurki Village and were attempting to abduct residents.
The soldiers immediately mobilised to the community and confronted the attackers, triggering another intense firefight. The terrorists were forced to retreat after suffering casualties, effectively thwarting the attempted mass abduction.
Following the operation, troops recovered a locally fabricated rifle, three rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, four cutlasses, and a mobile phone believed to have belonged to the fleeing terrorists.
Military authorities said the successful operations form part of the ongoing campaign by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks, deny criminal elements freedom of movement, and strengthen security across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining offensive operations aimed at protecting lives, safeguarding communities, and restoring lasting peace in affected areas.
