The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) has directed all its branches across Nigeria to end church activities by 8:00 pm daily and suspend vigils and overnight prayer programmes indefinitely.

The directive, issued in an internal memo dated June 5, 2026, was signed by the church’s Director of Administration at its international headquarters in Lagos.

According to the church, the move is driven by rising security concerns in the country, with the leadership saying the safety of members has become a priority.

The ministry described the decision as precautionary and mandatory, stressing that it is aimed at protecting worshippers amid growing insecurity, including reports of kidnappings and attacks in different parts of Nigeria.

All church services must end by 8:00 pm sharp
Vigils and overnight prayer meetings are suspended

Evening programmes that replace vigils must still conclude by 8:00 pm

All branches nationwide must comply immediately

The memo was circulated to senior church leadership, including regional and zonal pastors, for enforcement across all levels.

The decision reflects broader concerns among religious organisations in Nigeria, where churches, schools, and public gatherings have increasingly tightened security measures.

Analysts say the move highlights how insecurity is now affecting not just public life but also religious worship patterns, especially long standing traditions like all-night vigils.

For millions of MFM members, particularly those accustomed to overnight prayers, this marks a significant shift in worship culture.

While the church says the policy is temporary and subject to review, no timeline has been given for when vigils may resume.

MFM’s decision signals a growing reality in Nigeria: security concerns are now reshaping even spiritual practices, forcing institutions to rethink how worship is conducted safely.
