The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 38 year-old man, Nsikak Kingsley, for allegedly assaulting his father, Adone Peter, during a dispute that ended in the older man’s death.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed the arrest in a statement on Thursday. He said the incident occurred in Oda Community, Akure South Local Government Area, and has stirred concern among residents.
According to the police, Kingsley and his 65 year-old father engaged in a heated argument on May 28, 2026. Investigators believe the disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation during which the suspect allegedly attacked the deceased.
Jimoh said Peter suffered severe injuries, particularly to the head, during the incident. Family members and residents rushed him to a medical facility for treatment. However, doctors could not save him and later confirmed his death.
“The Ondo State Police Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, has arrested a 38 year-old man identified as Nsikak Kingsley for his alleged involvement in the death of his biological father, Adone Peter, aged 65 years,” the statement said.
The police launched an investigation after the suspect’s brother reported the incident at a nearby police station. Following the complaint, officers moved swiftly and arrested Kingsley.
Jimoh said detectives have commenced a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure due process.
The case adds to a growing list of domestic violence-related incidents reported across the country. In 2024, police in Lagos detained a 25 year-old man, Chibunnma Chimelie, for allegedly stabbing his 68 year-old father to death in the Isolo area of the state.
Authorities have urged residents to seek peaceful ways of resolving family disputes and to report threats or acts of violence before they escalate into tragedy.
