Lagos Unveils 10-Year Primary Healthcare Financing Plan

Lagos State Primary Health Care Board has launched a 10-year Primary Healthcare Financing Plan Framework, he initiative aims to improve funding, boost accountability, and expand access to healthcare services across the state.

The board unveiled the framework after Conference 57, a two-day retreat at Lakowe Lakes Resort in Ibeju-Lekki.

Health officials, local government chairmen, development partners, and senior government representatives attended the retreat, discussed gaps in primary healthcare financing and explored long-term solutions.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said the framework would strengthen the healthcare system and support universal health coverage.

“A clearly defined 10-year development plan allows us to strategically position our primary healthcare system for measurable growth and resilience,” he said.

The Commissioner also urged state and local governments to work together to improve healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.

In addition, Chairman of Conference 57 and ALGON representative for Ibeju-Lekki LCDA, Abdullahi Oluwa, said local governments would support efforts to improve healthcare services across Lagos.

Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Ibrahim Mustafa, described primary healthcare as the foundation of the state’s health system.

He added that the framework would promote efficient resource management and improve transparency in healthcare funding.

Furthermore, Mustafa identified the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund and the expansion of the Ilera Eko health insurance scheme as key tools for improving healthcare access.

The board also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery across Lagos over the next decade.
