Osagie Ize-Iyamu, an Edo South Senatorial aspirant and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, has urged party leaders to ensure transparency and fairness in the conduct of the forthcoming primaries, warning against any attempt to impose candidates.
In a statement released on Wednesday, he said party members must make their choices freely without fear, coercion or intimidation. He stressed that the credibility of the primaries would determine party unity and shape public trust.
The former governorship candidate cautioned against influencing appointees or stakeholders, noting that such actions contradict democratic principles. He said imposing candidates, whether directly or indirectly, would weaken party unity and erode public confidence.
“If primaries are to hold, they must be transparent and fair. Imposition of candidates undermines party unity and erodes public trust,” he said. He added that directing stakeholders on whom to support goes against the party’s core values.
“We trust that the leadership of our great party will do what is right. Let members decide freely, without fear, coercion or intimidation,” he added.
Ize-Iyamu also dismissed speculation about his political future, insisting that he remains committed to the party. He said no disagreement or setback would force him to leave.
“I have no intention of leaving the APC, now or ever,” he said. “No provocation or temporary setback will push me out of a party I helped to build.”
He reaffirmed his support for Bola Tinubu and praised his efforts to reposition the country. He also commended Monday Okpebholo for ongoing infrastructural development in Edo State.
Ize-Iyamu will face competition from incumbent Neda Imasuen and former House of Representatives member Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama in what observers expect to be a closely contested race.
