The Katsina State Police Command confirmed that a police officer and two civilians were killed during a bandit attack in Matazu Local Government Area.
DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, said the incident occurred on April 5 when heavily armed bandits blocked the Karadua-Musawa Road and opened fire on a moving vehicle, killing two passengers.
Security forces, including the police, military, community watch corps, and local vigilantes, quickly responded. They forced the attackers to retreat and evacuated the victims to a nearby hospital.
The bandits later regrouped and tried to invade the Musawa Police Division. Officers on duty repelled the assault, but one police officer lost his life in the exchange.
Commissioner of Police Ali Fage has deployed additional security personnel to prevent further attacks and restore calm. Investigations are ongoing to track down the perpetrators.
Governor Dikko Radda visited the affected communities, inspected damaged facilities, and condoled with residents and security personnel over the loss of lives. He also ordered an increased security presence in the area.
Authorities urged residents to stay calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts intensify to bring those responsible to justice.
