Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has formally signaled his intention to seek the party’s ticket for the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State, saying his decision followed sustained calls from citizens and stakeholders urging him to enter the race.
Dr. Wunti made the declaration on Friday during a courtesy visit to the APC leadership in Bauchi Local Government Area, marking what party officials described as his first formal engagement with the party structure at both the local and state levels.
Speaking at the party secretariat, the philanthropist and public personality framed his decision as a response to what he called persistent public pressure, particularly around the future of Bauchi’s youth.
“Allah knows, I only accepted to contest because of the pressure mounted on me to help rescue the future of our unemployed youth and safeguard the next generation,” he said.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged that, if elected, his administration would prioritize inclusive governance, equal opportunity, and long-term development planning across the state.
The visit was facilitated by the Coordinator of the Bala Wunti Movement, Yahaya Mohammed Miya, who formally introduced the aspirant to party stakeholders, describing the meeting as part of efforts to strengthen political engagement and deepen relationships within the party.
In his remarks, the APC Chairman in Bauchi Local Government, Alhaji Biyali, described Dr. Wunti as a figure with a significant record in mentorship and human capital development, arguing that his profile could be an asset as the party positions itself ahead of 2027.
“Dr. Bala Wunti’s record speaks for itself. His mentorship has nurtured individuals capable of holding the highest offices in the land, including that of governor,” he said.
Alhaji Biyali also assured party members and aspirants of a fair internal process, stressing that the APC would provide a level playing field as political preparations intensify.
Dr. Wunti’s entry into the contest adds to a growing field of aspirants expected to shape early calculations within the APC and across Bauchi’s wider political space as alignments take form ahead of the next electoral cycle.
S24 will continue to monitor developments and profile policy agendas as aspirants begin to outline their plans for Bauchi’s future.
