The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service has extended the deadline for filing individual income tax returns by one month.

The new deadline is now April 30, 2026, instead of the original March 31.

According to the Acting Executive Chairman, Michael Ango, the extension is to give taxpayers more time to file accurate returns.

He explained that while March 31 remains the statutory deadline, the extension is aimed at improving compliance.

Taxpayers are encouraged to complete their filings promptly through the official FCT-IRS tax portal.

The agency described the platform as secure, efficient and accessible.

Residents are also advised to ensure that key details such as their National Identification Number, phone numbers and addresses are correctly provided.

This is to avoid delays during processing.

The FCT-IRS reiterated that electronic filing remains the approved method for submitting returns.

It also urged individuals to embrace voluntary tax compliance as a civic responsibility.

The agency added that improved compliance contributes directly to national development.
