Security analyst, Kabir Adamu, has called for intensified evaluation and strategic reforms in Nigeria’s counter-insurgency efforts, warning that insecurity across multiple regions remains a serious national concern.

Speaking as a guest on the popular television programme Good Morning Nigeria, Adamu stressed that while efforts have been made to combat terrorism, more coordinated and consistent assessments are needed to achieve lasting peace.

He painted a troubling picture of the country’s security landscape, noting that different regions are battling varying forms of violent threats. According to him, the North-East continues to grapple with the activities of Boko Haram insurgents, while the North-West faces persistent attacks from armed bandits. In the North-Central region, he highlighted the growing menace of the Lakurawa group, describing the situation as deeply concerning.

Adamu said these developments reflect systemic challenges within Nigeria’s security architecture, adding that the current situation demands urgent and continuous reassessment of strategies.

“The reality is that large parts of Northern Nigeria are under different forms of insecurity, and this should worry every stakeholder,” he noted.

He further called for a comprehensive “rejig” of the nation’s security framework, urging authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve inter-agency collaboration, and ensure accountability in ongoing operations.

The security expert emphasized that the ultimate goal should be to create an environment where Nigerians can live without fear, stressing that citizens deserve to “sleep with both eyes closed.”

Adamu’s remarks come amid ongoing concerns over the persistence of insurgency and violent crimes, despite years of military and government interventions aimed at restoring peace across affected regions.
