Islamic scholar Dr. Sani Umar Rijar Lemo, has explained the ruling on Jumu’ah prayer when Eid falls on a Friday.
He made the clarification in Bauchi during the final Ramadan tafsir, where he spoke about what Muslims should do when both prayers fall on the same day.
Dr. Sani Umar said any Muslim who attends the Eid prayer may choose not to attend Jumu’ah later in the day. He said this ruling comes from authentic hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
According to him, the Prophet allowed those who had already gathered for Eid to skip Jumu’ah. However, he said this does not completely remove the obligation to pray.

He explained that anyone who does not attend Jumu’ah after praying Eid must perform Zuhr prayer instead.
“For those who attended Eid, Jumu’ah is no longer compulsory, he said.
Dr. Sani Umar also said Imams and mosque leaders must still hold Jumu’ah prayer. This allows those who did not attend Eid or who want to observe both prayers to worship as required.
He added that the best option is still to attend both Eid and Jumu’ah prayers because that carries a greater reward.
The scholar said the ruling shows that Islam gives ease while still protecting acts of worship.
